The River is DEFINITELY Enchanted!

A River Enchanted

A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross

"Do you ever wonder if we are unknowing participants in a spirit's game? If they move us like pawns on a board and glean with pleasure from provoking our heartaches?"

My Review

This is such a beautiful, lyrically written story. The world building is so beautifully done, its almost like listening to an artist explain his painting.

"Through low swaths of clouds, the isle spread before the with verdant patches of green and brown and dark pools of lochs, with silver threads of rivers and stone walls of paddocks, with clusters of cottages and woods and rocks."

Rebecca Ross is a master of description and putting an image in your head. This whole book felt like a ballad.
I desperately need a second book. The ending had me wanting to throw the book against a wall and whipping the last page back and forth looking for the rest of it. Needless to say I will be preordering the second book because my lord I desperately need to know how this love-story between Jack and Adaira ends.
According to the authors notes this book was meant to be a YA novel and is her first Adult Fantasy novel and can I just say she nailed the mature descriptive writing! I need more! I will be buying every other book like this she writes because my goodness is was such a stunning read.

The only thing that bugs me about this book is how subtle the romance is, which is really sweet and dainty and I came to appreciate their relationship more, but its definitely not the main plot of the book. They could have never grown to like each other and the ending would still me the same, I think. It's more of a fantasy/mystery with a hint of romance between our two main characters than a fantasy/romance. I'm thinking and hoping that the second book will be more like a romance novel and I really hope their relationship blossoms into something really beautiful! Fingers crossed!
